I was assigned to work at the Walkill construction project in its earliest phases, and I can confirm that meeting attendance was completely off the agenda. We who came up from Bethel never bothered to take along suits, ties, etc. It was wall-to-wall work, sun-to-sun, seven days a week, unless you were smart enough to catch a ride on the Bethel truck back to Brooklyn Saturday. I remembder how Circuit Overseer Wesley Benner, an accomplished carpenter, and the guy who years later DF'd Ray Franz, was ridiculed in the locker room when he asked for time off to go in service, or to attend a meeting.

At Bethel it was at times ordered that you MISS the meetings due to a hot job
by life is to short inthe poster ex dub ms reminded me of something i had forgotten.
at bethel especially in construction if there was a hot job going on or a deadline you missed meetings peroid!
no questions asked.. now if a rank and file husband who was working a low wage job to support his family or a single mom had to miss meetings due to a hot job at work what would happen to them?.

RF and GG
by Farkel inrf and gg.
the parallels between raymond franz and galileo galilei are remarkable and we can learn from them and their religious masters.. in the case of galileo and the catholic church, the issue was not what the church wanted people to believe it was: "who owns the truth about the heavens?".
in the case of raymond franz and the watchtower printing corporation, the issue was not what the corporation wanted people to believe it was: "who owns the truth about shunning", and "who owns the truth about what the bible really teaches?".

The interesting thing about Galileo is that he remained a devout Catholic despite his discoveries and subsequent treatment by the church. He was content to state the facts and let it lie there, convinced that the truth would one day prevail and in some way become reconciled with faith. His lilegitimate daughter, Maria Celeste, was a nun and maintained a fascinating -- and very moving -- correspondence with her father through it all, eventually sharing a grave with her father in the Basilica di Santa Croce, Florence. I highly recommend the book "Galileo's Daughter" to any interested in the man and his travails.

New Light on conducting meetings for Field Service
by Mad Sweeney inaccording to the governing body letters blogspot, the february 2011 km establishes a prohibition on reading the daily text at meetings for field service.. no further details are given.
anyone have theirs and can post a scan or a summary?.

Try as they might to extract more hours of service, the same number of dubbies will foot-drag, coffee-break and drag their way through field serve-us for as much, if not more time wasted, as ever.

The stupid current Governing Body
by possible-san inin my forum, an active japanese jw (my friend) taught me what he studied in the meeting recently.. that is the meeting on sunday (12/19) a few days ago.. in the material they studied on that day, it is written like this.. "the greek word translated honor in the bible conveys the sense of esteem, value, preciousness.
(luke 14:10).
yes, those we honor are precious, valuable to us.".
-

It appears that in the WT just studied, there's no mention of the actual Greek word. The error, then, is in the 1992 WT, not the 10/15/2010 issue.

The Blood muddle
by leo999 ini could do with some help to sort out this fraction muddle .we are inactive and of the conscious class , but trying to help others see the 'light' in whatever ways we can .. a couple of years ago , i asked an elder about the fractions , questioning particularly the 33% hemoglobin allowed in the 06 km insert .
when i was a wee girl growing up , nothing of any part was allowed and we were fanatical to even write manufacturers and question their ingredients !!.
i would like to have a list of allowable fractions according to the societies current light , and also what fractions are not allowed .

Has the WTS ever explained how any blood can be processed into the so-called "acceptable" or conscience matter' components without violatng the prohibition on storing blood (i.e. "pouring it on the ground")?? And can any JW conscientiously donate his/her blood exclusively for its use in this process?

When was the last 7-Day Convention held?
by VM44 indoes anyone know when the watchtower held the last 7-day convention?.
these conventions lasted from 9am to 9pm every day for a whole week, except perhaps for sunday.. they were mostly held in open-air stadiums and people had to endure the burning heat during the day, and the cold at night.. it took endurance to sit throughout the whole thing.. making people attend those things really was an expression of love from the watchtower!
did the watchtower drop right away to the 3-day program, or were 5 day conventions held for awhile?.

These days, they have a problem getting the dubbies to attend the Fridays of a three-day convention; they wouldn't dare attempt an eight day assembly again.

Veterans Stadium
by Little Mac ini am brand new to this forum but have spent hours over the last year on here reading and laughing a lot.
laughter is the best medicine.
i'd like to cast out a topic here- i'd love to hear what some of your thoughts were if any of you were faithful attendees at the sweltering veterans stadium assemblies over the years.

I've sweltered there along with many others; one year, when we had orchestras, I played in one. It was one the sidelines on the field, and properly dressed with a short-sleeve shirt and tie, I got a nose bleed that turned my white shirt pink. I wondered which veterens the place was named for -- most likely those on the Bataan Death March!

ROME Demonstration against ostracism and shunning
by Nick! inon december 1st, a relatively large group of ex-jehovahs witnesses and supporters of human rights held a demonstration in front of the italian parliament in piazza montecitorio.. the manifestation sprung from the reaction of many of those who have been disfellowshipped or expelled by the governance of the jehovahs witnesses cult and who, following the instructions of the watchtower leadership, have been shunned not only by their ex worshipping fellows, but even by the members of their own family.. shunning is an old weapon used by the watchtower leadership against those who stop sharing their views on religious matters and if a demonstration was all that was required to alert the public opinion about it, then it should have been acted upon very long ago.. the reason why the demonstration took place now rather than in the past is because the italian parliament is about to approve a law which would grant the watchtower even more religious freedom and privileges than what it has enjoyed up to now, including the right to receive from the italian state their share of the 0.8% of the income tax revenue paid by the italian tax payers.. while jehovahs witnesses, as an organization, already enjoy a large amount of religious privileges in the country, they claim for themselves from the state the same rights granted to the catholic church and other recognized religious denominations.
but, contrary to those other religious movements, only jehovahs witnesses violate the human rights granted by the un charter, the european union charter and the italian constitutional rights by shunning those who decide to leave the movement, instructing their members to totally discriminate socially, secularly and even family wise, their ex members.. the objective of the demonstration last wednesday was to alert the public opinion about the issue and, because the place where it was held, alert the italian parliament about the law they are about to approve in favor of the watchtower.
the demonstration followed the hundreds of letters sent during the last three months by many ex jehovahs witnesses and other supporters of human rights, directly to individual members of the parliament or to the whole parliamentary commission for the constitutional affairs.. what can be said about the demonstration itself; was it a success or a failure?.

WT Study Version Feb 2011 - Double Standard?
by Simon Morley indid anyone find the illustration on page 26 odd?
i surmised for a moment that perhaps the "brother" in the illustration was an elder and he prayed about an employment issue - we all know what he will do.
yet, would that same elder make the same pryerful decision when it came to selling a kingdom hall to say the same church and say no?

Mr. Monroe, I suspect in this instance you confused "stupidity" with tolerance -- a word JWs don't seem to comprehend.
